About a dozen children from the Oakland Beach Boys and Girls Club earned certificates of completion Friday from three Warwick Police Department officers, as the WPD educated them about self-defense tactics against strangers and predators through a program, radKids. The 10-hour program, which took place during the course of multiple days, also teaches the children about empowerment, including the importance of avoiding drugs and alcohol, anti-bullying, how to properly cross the street and safety around motor vehicles. Sandra Cain, 9, a student at Oakland Beach Elementary School, gets a high-five from Officer Steve Lombardi. “I learned a lot of skills and that if anybody put their hands on me it’s not my fault and that I can tell someone,” Sandra said.
