Do you need a prom dress?

We were contacted by email by a senior at Smithfield High School, Sarah Thompson, who is once again spearheading a very successful prom dress consignment sale. Her goals are to give local girls the opportunity to buy a beautiful, gently used dress without spending a fortune; and to give local girls the opportunity to consign their beautiful, gently used dresses and recoup some money by receiving 75 percent commission while raising money for St. Thomas’ Church in Greenville through the remaining 25 percent.

Last year Sarah’s goals were met, and more than $1,250 in dresses were sold. This being her final year, she is planning another sale for May 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on May 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Thomas’ Church in Greenville. Dressed may be dropped off for consignment on May 2. For more information, contact her at 300-2158 and help make a young woman’s dream come true.

Did You Know?

Mr. Potato Head is an American toy consisting of a plastic model of a potato, which can be decorated with a variety of plastic parts that can attach to the main body. These parts usually include ears, eyes, shoes, a hat, a nose and a mouth. The toy was invented and developed by George Lerner in 1949, and first manufactured and distributed by Hasbro in 1952. Mr. Potato Head was the first toy advertised on television and has remained in production since its debut. The toy was originally produced as separate plastic parts with pushpins that could be stuck into a real potato or other vegetable. However, due to complaints regarding rotting vegetables and new government safety regulations, Hasbro began including a plastic potato body within the toy set in 1964. (Source: Wikipedia)
