Kent Hospital hosts a number of support groups that meet on a regular schedule at the hospital and at outlying buildings. Listed here is information about various groups and when they meet:

Center for Surgical Weight Loss

The Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Care New England offers free information sessions and support groups. These programs are aimed at helping patients who suffer from obesity and other weight-related diseases obtain an optimal weight and healthier lifestyle. 

A patient support group will be held at the Care New England Wellness Center, (Conference Room B), 2191 Post Road, Warwick. The next sessions will be April 7, and May 5, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Please RSVP, The Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Care New England, 736-3731.  

Also, free information sessions are available for patients and prospective patients. Information sessions are held the first Tuesday of every month at Kent Hospital’s Doctors’ Auditorium from 6-9 p.m. the next three sessions will be April 14. Free parking is available on the Doctors’ Auditorium side of the hospital by entering at the service vehicle entrance on Toll Gate Road. No RSVP is needed.

The Stroke Center

The Stroke Center at Kent Hospital hosts a monthly stroke support group for stroke survivors and caregivers. The next meetings will take place on Wednesday, March 25 and April 29, from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Trowbridge Building, located adjacent to Kent Hospital, in rooms 102/103. Each month a new guest speaker will be discussing concerns regarding stroke. All members of the community who have survived a stroke, are at risk of a stroke or are caregivers for someone who has undergone a stroke, are encouraged to attend.

Amputee Support Group

 

Kent Hospital along with the New England Amputee Association conduct informational group meetings for amputees and families. This group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month, the next meetings will be on Wednesday, March 25, April 22, 4:30-6 p.m., at Kent Hospital Outpatient Rehab, 1351 South County Trail, Building 2, Suite 200, East Greenwich. 

New England Amputee Association’s mission is to reach out to people with limb loss and provide a supportive environment where information and experiences are shared and friendships are formed.

Breast Cancer Support Group

A breast cancer support group meets every second Thursday of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. The next meeting will be held on April 9. It is an informal, ongoing group, bringing people together to share their experiences and problems related to cancer and to provide one another with comfort and help. Please use the Imaging Center entrance located next to Kent’s Emergency Department, 455 Toll Gate Road, Warwick.  The meetings are free, and breast cancer patients and their families are invited to attend.

The Breast Health Center at Kent draws on the expertise of specialty-trained physicians who are national leaders in breast health. This collaboration with Women & Infants’ Hospital enhances and broadens Kent Hospital’s commitment to providing its patients with access to the best possible care in this region. Cardiology Support Group  

The Kent cardiology patient support group focuses on individuals with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). The support group is open to all patients with ICDs in Rhode Island and their families and will be held on Thursday, April 30 and Thursday, September 24. Bruce A. Koplan MD, MPH, FACC, director of cardiac arrhythmia service at Kent Hospital and a member of Brigham and Women’s Cardiovascular Associates at Care New England will lead the meeting. The purpose of Kent’s cardiology patient support group is to educate patients with ICDs and their family members on coping with these devices. Topics to be discussed include: living with your device, managing your health, what to expect from your device, maintaining a dialogue with your healthcare providers, exercise and more.
