TC not running for re--election, panel endorses Jeremy Rix

Posted

Thomas “TC” Chadronet has been a regular at Warwick City Council meetings since the early 1980s and most recently as the councilman from Ward 2.

Chadronet will probably continue to attend the meetings but, as he pointed out yesterday, he won’t be staying until the bitter end after the new year. That’s because Chadronet has announced he won’t seek re-election and he can choose to leave if the session gets too winded for his liking.

The decision to not seek re-election was prompted by the stroke he suffered immediately following the 2014 election. Recovery took a long time, and while he looks fit, he said Monday he still feels he is only 80 percent there. Knocking on the doors of more than 1,000 homes, as he did when he first ran, is out of the question.

Besides, he said, “It’s time for some younger blood.”

As he was not a candidate, Chadronet sat on the Ward 2 Democratic Committee that interviewed candidates last Saturday, bestowing the endorsement to Jeremy Rix. Three other candidates were interviewed by the seven-member panel, which included Democratic City Committee Chair Rob Farrell, said ward committee chair Fred Sullivan.

Others interviewed were Sean Rainey, James Donelan and Michael Zarum. Zarum came close to beating Chadronet in a 2014 Democratic primary.

“They all had good points and all are good people,” Sullivan said. He said candidates were each given 10 minutes to outline their votes, which was followed by questions from the panel.

“There was no pre-conceived notion of who was going to vote for whom,” he said.

Members of the ward committee who are also candidates did not participate in conducting interviews and were excluded from voting. Sullivan said regardless how the vote turned out, the panel agreed to give the winning candidate a unanimous vote of endorsement.

By Monday morning, Rix, the endorsed candidate, had issued a press release announcing his selection.

“It’s a great honor and I’m thrilled to receive the endorsement from a diverse group of Democrats who are active here in the neighborhood. I’m proud to have all of them behind me as I move forward in my campaign,” Rix said in a statement.

“I’ve spent a lot of time lately speaking to people here. People have clear expectations. They want someone who cares about the neighborhood and has the skills to get things done. I look forward to more conversations with them as we gear up for the Democratic Primary on September 13.”

Since announcing his candidacy in March, Rix and his campaign team have attended dozens of local meetings and events, knocked on hundreds of doors, and have spoken with Warwick citizens on issues from traffic, crime and sewers to school consolidation and taxes, among many others.

Chadronet and Sullivan said all the candidates were intent on running. Both imagine the ward will see a primary and perhaps a four-way contest for the party nomination.

4 years on the council and other than saying present during role call the man never spoke, never asked a question during budget hearings, never returned a constituent phone call. Kinda like CJ did for 14 years. Now Rix is running and hasn't even been involved with following the city finances or even is fluent on city issues. Just another union purchase. How sad and embarrassing is the Warwick City Council. The team of failures with no wins for the taxpayer in decades. How sad.

    Dear Tom ("TC"),

We have breakfast every Saturday and I have learned an encyclopedia of information from you over the last year or so. One of your greatest lessons is that we should listen, not just speak. Sometimes, people on the council talk counter productively. Sometimes they talk just to hear themselves talk. Often they talk with no effect on the ultimate outcome. You don't. You never have and I respect that about you very much. Please keep guiding me to listen more; talk less. It's a lesson your fellow council members, as well as many in the audience, would be wise to follow. God gave us 2 ears and only one mouth for a reason.

Enjoy your political retirement my friend.

    My God Rick,

The man was completely useless as a council person. Stop this democratic pandering crap. I'm sure that whatever you learned from him would not be productive for the community as he has done ZERO for the community. Talk to some of his constituents that have never gotten a return phone call. The council and the mayor have no balls. Did you actually read the budget? I know you didn't ask any questions at the hearings, again, but you must be able to understand that every service line item in the budget was cut, and every employee got MASSIVE PAY INCREASES. You sat silent. The useless council (your buddies) were unable to trim 5 cents from the budget, not 1 nickel, yet each department was over budget. What kind of fiscal management does that indicate??? This really is getting ridiculous. We have no leaders, just people that bloviate to hear themselves talk. No action, no resolutions, nadda ever. With dopes like Travis and Wilkinson on the council its laughable at best. What a humiliation to be the losing team every year. Nothing for the taxpayer, they just suck up to Scotty. Give me a break. I don't even understand how these council members would want to be attached to an organization that year after year fails to get anything done. When will you seriously call it like it is and stop this political felatio.

So Rick, sitting on the council and accomplishing nothing is admirable? Do you recall the stories of constituents in the beacon that couldn't get a phone call returned from TC? He did the complete opposite of listening.

Now that the budget will remain the same, where would the money for your tax cuts come from? What about the new businesses tax credit? Paying half of seniors car taxes, any estimate on what the cost of something like that would be? Wouldn't it depend on the value of the car?, as well as the amount of seniors? How could you even begin to estimate what that would cost taxpayers? This is no longer about cookies and slogans Rick. I have asked these questions multiple times now with no answers given. You can't grow your way out, so where does the money come from?
