TD Bank opening 5th RI store on May 5

Warwick has a new lucky number – 5.

Actually, it’s 5-5-5.

TD Bank will open its fifth Rhode Island store on May 5 in Warwick. The bank’s location is no surprise to those who frequent Wildes Corner. During the last year, the site has been a beehive of activity, with the building and landscaping all coming in place in the last month. Earlier this week, with the addition of sod, it even turned green.

“Green” is something TD Bank stores are known for.

The new Warwick store is the 60th energy-efficient location across the bank’s Maine to Florida footprint. It aims for LEED Platinum certification, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, based on its overall environmental performance in six areas: a sustainable site, low water use, energy efficiency, and using recycled materials, its indoor air quality and innovation and design. The bank’s many windows reduce the need for interior lighting and photovoltaic cells on the roof provide about 20 percent of the building’s electrical needs.

The bank that uses the tag line, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, is already proving that for its first manager. Patrick Mooney, who came to this bank from Sovereign Bank’s Hillsgrove branch, literally lives down the street.

“It’s close to home. I feel like I already know a lot of people,” Mooney said in an interview Tuesday. Mooney will oversee nine to 12 employees and be responsible for new business development, consumer lending, and managing day-to-day operations.

Mooney grew up in Warwick and graduated from Toll Gate High School. He has spent the last 10 years in banking, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bryant University. He has done volunteer work with Special Olympics and the J. Arthur Trudeau Center, and recently become involved with A Wish Come True.

When TD Bank entered the Rhode Island market in 2010, it outlined a plan to open 10 stores across the state. A bank spokeswoman said the bank continues to pursue that goal, although target dates for future store openings were not released.

Mooney said Grand Opening ceremonies on Saturday, May 5, would start at 10 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. In addition to a ribbon cutting at noon, a number of activities are planned. A fire truck and rescue will be on site for kids to visit. There will be a disc jockey, $100 give-aways every hour and a drawing for a $1,000 shopping spree. And there will be hot dogs and, naturally, Del’s Lemonade.

Mooney says the bank is ideally situated in a city that “pretty much” has everything you could want.

The bank will be open seven days a week.

“America’s Most Convenient Bank®, that’s our motto,” said Mooney.

Since coming to the state, TD Bank has created more than 60 Rhode Island jobs.

TD Bank in Warwick will be open Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
