TG boys lead the way at Ocean State Invite

Cross country teams from around the region converged on Warwick this past weekend for the annual Ocean State Invitational at Goddard Park. Westerly’s Randi Burr and North Kingstown’s Beth Nunnery were the top Rhode Island performers in the high-school races. Burr won the Girls Freshman I division with a time of 15 minutes, 40 seconds over four kilometers. Nunnery took third overall in the Girls Championship race.

Toll Gate and Pilgrim both sent their boys’ and girls’ squads into the fray. The Titan boys were the top-performing Warwick squad with a 15th in the Varsity I race. Pilgrim took 36th. In the girls’ Varsity I division, Toll Gate finished 18th and Pilgrim was just back in 22nd.

Toll Gate’s Erika Pena was the top individual performer at the varsity level with a 30th-place finish in the Varsity I race for the Titans. Bryanna Mullin of Pilgrim finished 46th.

Evan Cummiskey finished 60th for Toll Gate to lead Warwick varsity boys.

The Toll Gate boys also had a JV squad going, and the Titans finished 19th, led by Ethan Golditch’s 53rd-place finish.

In the freshman division, Toll Gate’s Nik Reygadas finished ninth overall on the boys’ side, while Toll Gate’s Madison Janysek finished 22nd and Sophia Maynard finished 24th in the girls’ race.

Parlato leads Hawks in Manchester

Hendricken junior Dominic Parlato was one of the top Rhode Island performers at Saturday’s Manchester (N.H.) Invitational. Parlato won the gold medal in the boys’ JV race at Derryfield Park. Parlato clocked 17:01 for the victory.

The Hawks also took the JV team title with 21 points. Behind Parlato, Wally Fitzhugh took third, Jared Boulanger finished fourth, Jack Rossi took sixth, Caleb George finished seventh, Jake Cardello took ninth and Pat Hagerty finished seventh.

In the boys’ Large School Division, Hendricken senior Mike Potter was the top R.I. finisher, crossing the line 12th in 16:39. Teammate Avery Ingegneri was 18th, Tom McMahon was 28th, Mike Kiernan was 58th and Tom Grizzetti was 132nd. The Hawks finished fourth overall.

Ellie Lawler, of South Kingstown High, placed third in the girls’ Small Schools race in 19:25.
