(Inspirational, romantic story of Hawking)

@T_Basic:How can you not be inspired by the life of the cosmologist genius, Stephen Hawking?

And how can you not marvel at the portrayal of Hawking by British actor Eddie Redmayne?

Redmayne has all of the physical movements and the facial expressions of this remarkable man down to a tee. He shows you the changes caused by the terrible Lou Gehrig's disease from start to present.

ALS began to affect Hawking's life while he was still at Cambridge, and he was given two years to live. With the help of Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones), his college sweetheart, Hawking copes with his problems and shares his genius with the world.

The 2¼-hour movie is filled with joy, sadness, romance, intellectual moments and even humor, as nerdy atheist Hawking falls in love with a beautiful young poetry student who sings in the church choir. Her unconditional love inspires him as ALS first makes it difficult to walk and progresses to the inability to move and speak. But his brain, courage and brilliant intellect is never effected. She wheels him around, feeds him, dresses him, encourages him and, though not shown, must take care of his personal hygiene.

Hawking's theories of space and time are discussed, but the movie takes care not to overwhelm us, as he searches for answers that explain the origin of the universe, black holes and the non-existence of a supreme being.

Based on Jane Wilde's book about her life with Hawking, the story deals compassionately with their amicable divorce after having three children and how they both found love and happiness with other spouses.

Hawking is still with us at age 72, and who knows what lies ahead for him. One thing is for certain, he is one of the most fascinating persons ever to live on this planet.

Rated PG-13, with a story that may be a bit too heavy for those below the junior high level.
