Rhode Island Dercums Research Fund will hold a fundraising event on Saturday, October 22 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Tavern 12, 2299 Post Rd., Warwick. The event will feature guest bartenders including former Patriot's player Harold Shaw, local comedian John Morris and Steve Simmons. All tips are donated to the Rhode Island Dercums Research Fund.

Dercum's disease is an extremely rare condition characterized by multiple growths in the fatty tissue of the trunk, upper arms and upper legs that cause severe pain. The cause of the disease is unknown. The disease is more prevalent in women, particularly post-menopausal women who carry excess body fat.

This is the fifth event Tavern 12 has hosted a fundraiser for the fund.
