The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation nationally recognized four Warwick Public School teachers recently. The Foundation, started by famed computer whiz Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, in 2000, partners with various organizations across the globe providing grants. In the United States the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation focuses on the education system and promoting innovative solutions that bring forth change. Deirdre Pesola, a sixth grade teacher at Norwood Elementary; Dawn Manchester, a sixth grade teacher at Lippitt Elementary and Tracy Mollock and Amy Dolan, both first grade teachers at Warwick Neck Elementary, were all interviewed by the foundation for the January newsletter. They discussed their initiative Create and Collaborate, a professional development program run by teachers for teachers. At these Create and Collaborate meetings which have been hosted at the Warwick Public Library and Barnes and Noble on Bald Hill Road, teachers come and share what has and has not worked in their own classrooms. Each meeting there is also special presentations to introduce teachers to new technology or online media, or programs that can be used in the classroom. The teachers pictured from left are: Dawn Manchester, Deirdre Pesola, Amy Dolan with Tracy Mollock laying across their arms. The article can be read at collegeready.gatesfoundaation.org.
