This weekend crews worked at the Odeum Theatre on Main Street in East Greenwich, ripping up the old seats in preparation for the new. “We’re putting in a new fire curtain, carpeting, lights up and down the aisles and a concession area,” said Doug Truesdell, secretary of the Odeum’s Board of Directors and chairman of the Building Committee. “The Champlin [Foundations] grant we received was $142,000, so the entire project will cost between $100,000 to $200,000,” he said.
Despite being closed for four years, the Odeum’s interior condition was “not as bad” as Truesdell expected. They hope to have the theater renovated and completed by March 31, at which point they will become a fully operational performance venue once again.
