Twenty years ago I wrote that J.P. Spoonems on Broad St. in Edgewood had the best corned beef hash in the state. Guess what, they still do! And they’ve added a terrific salmon hash to their menu.

Remember Phoebe’s on Fall River Ave. in Seekonk? They had great fish and chips for $1.95. Zio Michele on Post Road in Warwick (now a Johnson & Wales site) had swordfish and crab casserole for $6.50. J. Wales across the street had Scallops Nantucket for $9.95.

Remember Shoney’s at 1,000 Bald Hill Rd. in Warwick, right near the Red Lobster and Olive Garden? They had great breakfast and Friday night buffets. Only Olive Garden remains.

Remember the 957 Restaurant (formerly Frederick’s) on West Shore Road? They had corned beef and cabbage and meatloaf for $3.95 and an all-you-can-eat Sunday chicken dinner for $5.95.

Charlie Hall’s Ocean State Follies and Room Full of Blues played a benefit for Tuesday’s Child at the Greenwich Odeum. Pendragon played there the following week.

“La Cage Aux Folles,” directed by Tony Caparco and produced by Frank Ferri, both of Warwick, was at Theatre Works in Woonsocket.

“Dames at Sea” was at Academy Players in East Greenwich. Warwick cast members included Joann Lugio, Joann Macarone and Lisa Marie Hicks.

Reminisce was playing at Taste of Italy in Coventry.

Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, the popular Cajun band from Louisiana, played the UTC ballroom in Johnston.

Trinity actor/director Fred Sullivan Jr. directed a new theatre group, Theatre Jones (an offshoot of Improv Jones) in Pinter’s “The Lover” at the Columbus Theatre. Mauro Hantman starred.

Billy Crystal starred in “Forget Paris,” an unusual love story that was told from both the male and female point of view. The latest “Die Hard” was titled “Die Hard With a Vengeance” and, of course, starred Bruce Willis.
