Remember Faye’s Place in South Providence? They had some of the best southern cooking in Rhode Island.

Warwick resident Edgar Edwards and Cranston Cantor Robert Leiberman starred in Ocean State Light Opera’s “Iolanthe” at Wheeler School. Cranston’s Ann Danis conducted the orchestra.

Jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson sold out the East Greenwich Odeum. Opening for Ferguson were the Jazz Avengers from East Greenwich High School.

Demi Moore and Burt Reynolds starred in “Striptease,” while Eddie Murphy was “The Nutty Professor.” Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum saved the world from disaster in “Independence Day.”

Alabama opened the Warwick Musical Theatre’s 42nd season, followed by Brooks and Dunn, as Larry Bonoff became a pioneer for bringing top country acts to Rhode Island. George Carlin, Donna Summer, Luther Vandross, Laurie Morgan, Huey Lewis and the News and Jay Black also appeared in July.

Over 3,000 Cajun and Bluegrass fans filled the hillside at Escoheag’s Stepping Stone Ranch to listen to the music of the Louisiana bayous and southwest for the Big Easy Bash.

Bob Colonna, who used to rehearse his Young Rhode Island Shakespeare Theatre in the Edgewood Church parking lot, returned to Alias Stage’s space in Providence’s Jewelry District for a classic production of “Antony and Cleopatra,” starring Nigel Gore and Kate Lohman.

Theatre By The Sea opened its season with “Singin’ in the Rain,” starring Dante Sciarra.
