East Greenwich’s Academy Players presented the Broadway musical “110 in the Shade” at the Swift Gym, directed by Joan Dillenback and starring Bill Whitehead Jr. and Jean McMillan.

Kevin Kline gave a great performance as “Dave,” about a guy who looked like the president and stood in for him when he went into a coma. Sigourney Weaver played the First Lady and Ben Kingsley played the VP. There were guest appearances by Jay Leno, Larry King, Oliver Stone, Tip O’Neill and a handful of actual senators.

Neil Simon’s “Lost in Yonkers” was at the local movie houses, with Irene Worth playing the grandmother, a role Paula Faber played magnificently last year on the 2nd Story stage. Richard Dreyfus played Uncle Louie.

Second Story was doing their three short plays for five bucks and a Sunday night improv for the same price at School One in Providence.

The Rhode Island Philharmonic received standing ovations for their season finale under the direction of Zuohuang Chen and starring the one and only Maria Spacagna.

“Grand Hotel,” winner of five Tony Awards, played the Providence Performing Arts Center.
