Debra Winger starred in the offbeat “A Dangerous Woman.”

Robin Williams starred in one of his best movies as “Mrs. Doubtfire.”

Sequels included “Wayne’s World 2,” “Beethoven’s 2nd” and “Sister Act 2.”

Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington starred in John Grisham’s “The Pelican Brief.”

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau starred in “Grumpy Old Men.”

The State Ballet presented their 34th edition of “Coppelia.”

The Ocean State Brass Quintet gave a holiday concert at the Cranston Public Library.

The Warwick City Orchestra gave a free concert at St. Clement’s Church.

The Rhode Island Convention Center opened with a black-tie dinner, complete with speeches and a performance by Melissa Manchester. An open house the following day drew an estimated 40,000 people.

It was the 9th anniversary of First Night, a great family-centered event that will be sorely missed this year. Over 70 activities were scheduled for the new Convention Center. Big Noise released an all-new First Night CD, featuring 19 tracks by First Night’s most popular recording artists.

Rose and John reopened Rose’s Family Restaurant for dinner on the Cranston/Warwick line. I still remember their fabulous fish and chips.

PJP’s Airport Family Restaurant on Airport Road had two eggs, homefries, toast and coffee for 99 cents. Can you believe it? You could splurge and order three pancakes (plain, blueberry or banana) with two eggs for $1.50. Full course dinners cost $8.95 for two people.

Down the road at James H. McManus, all-you-can-eat pancakes were $1.50, and a full plate of two pancakes, two sausages, two eggs and two bacon strips cost a whopping $1.75.

Warwick resident Tony Annicone directed the production of “Cinderella Wore Combat Boots,” put on by the children’s department at the Jewish Community Center of R.I.
