The 15th Annual Cajun & Bluegrass Festival, predecessor to today’s Rhythm and Roots Festival, was held at Stepping Stone Ranch in Exeter over the Labor Day weekend. CJ Chenier, the Red Hot Louisiana Band, Tim and Mollie O’Brien and, of course, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys headed the ticket.

Cranstonian Joanne Mouradjian shined in the title role of “Patience” at the Ocean State Light Opera Company.

Oliver Stone’s violent “Natural Born Killers” starred Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson. “Quiz Show” starring Robert Redford was another big hit.

Soap opera stars Victoria Wyndham and Charles Keating were featured in the grand reopening of the Greenwich Odeum, starring in “Love Letters.”

Billy Ray Cyrus, father of Miley, closed the Warwick Musical Theatre season with his big hit, “Achy, Breaky Heart.”

The former Shoney’s on Bald Hill Rd. in Warwick had an all-you-care-to-eat breakfast bar for $4.59, featuring Belgian Waffles.

Basil’s Pizza on West Shore Road featured homestyle, including galumpki, pierogis and kapusta every Tuesday.

Newport Creamery had a “Big Deal” colossal sundae with three scoops of ice cream, two toppings, whipped cream and a cherry on top for $2.49.

The former Monterey had 1¼ lobsters and lobster rolls for $7.95.

Rose’s Family Restaurant offered roast beef, baked ham and roast turkey dinners, served with mashed potato, vegetable, rolls and butter for the incredible price of $3.99 We sure miss Chef John.

City Nights Theatre presented “Groucho: A Life in Review,” with Sonny Dufault in the title role.

“Les Miserables” came to the Providence Performing Arts Center for the first time.

Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale” was a big hit at Trinity. It starred Peter Gerety, Timothy Crowe, Bob Colonna, Phyllis Kay, Barbara Orson, Brian McEleney and Fred Sullivan Jr.
