‘The Addams Family’ coming to Cranston East stage

Posted

On Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., the drama students at Cranston High School East will be putting on a lively rendition of “The Addams Family,” and all are invited to attend. Tickets are $7 at the door and $5 in advance.

“These are the Acting and Directing I and II classes, and in II they have to direct a play,” said Joe Wallace, drama department educator. “They take the responsibility very seriously and work very hard.”

For “The Addams Family,” senior Shoshana Adler is the student director, a role she has been perfecting since her days directing plays at Hugh B. Bain Middle School.

“This has been a really fun process,” she said. “We’ve been working on it since late September, and everyone has worked really well together.”

According to Adler, the students have worked during school and after school rehearsing and getting ready.

“Everyone helps out, whether it’s with costumes or props, it’s never just one person,” she said.

Wallace enjoys watching the process play out as the show begins to come together each year.

“I’m here to advise them, but they basically own this class, and they respond well to it,” he said.

Once “The Addams Family” wraps up, the group will continue the annual tradition of performing their one-hour version of “A Christmas Carol” next month for any students at the elementary or middle school levels, public or private, including outside of the Cranston Public Schools.

“We enjoy doing that show every year,” Wallace said. “It’s open to anyone who wants to attend.”
