The Bridge at Cherry Hill opened its Summer Concert Series with a flare and flavor Tuesday night in Johnston.
For starters, executive chef Marvin Webster’s talents were on display long before noted entertainer Nick King began singing a variety of popular songs on The Bridge’s standing-room-only patio.
“It’s our Friends and Family Picnic,” said Webster, who is noted for his many culinary classics. “It’s summer, and after all, everyone loves a picnic.”
People like Richard Oakley, one of The Bridge’s newer residents, and his daughter Charlene, who is well experienced in the food and beverage industry, noted while listening to King belt out several of Bobby Darin’s hits: “That man [Webster] is a great chef; we really enjoyed this picnic.”
The second seasonal concert will be held Tuesday evening, July 5, and the night’s theme is “Honky Tonk Piano.” As The Bridge’s Executive Director Maryann Grace noted: “We invite you to join our residents and guests for these wonderful concerts.”
Grace also pointed out that The Bridge’s Summer Concert Series is held rain or shine, and if there’s inclement weather, the event is moved inside. The concerts begin at 6 p.m., and are free of charge.
The series will continue again on July 12 when J Slick will offer oldies tunes and a rock ‘n’ roll review. On July 19, Janine Andrews, a skilled entertainer/singer, will headline the night’s program.
Kim Oakes Non-Stop Entertainment is scheduled for the Aug. 2 concert, while Nick King will be back on Aug. 9 for an evening of crooner-style music. On Aug. 16, noted entertainer-singer Bobby Bourassa will bring his luau-style music to The Bridge at Cherry Hill.
The Aug. 23 will feature rock music from the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s from Russ Morency. The series will conclude on Aug. 30 with the Orchestra of One, a.k.a. Susan McLeod.
