The Queen took note

Most people might be nervous to find government official documents in the mail around April 15, but not West Bay Retirement Living resident Kathleen “Kitty” Paskoski. In honor of her 100th birthday, which was on “Tax Day” last week, Paskoski received not one, but four birthday cards from public officials: Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee, President Barack Obama, and the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II. Pictured above with her sons Russell, Joseph and Mark, Paskoski was born in England and lived in the London area until 1946. Mark called his mother a “war bride” who met and married his father, a member of the Army Air Corps, while he was stationed in England; Mark’s older brother Joseph was also born in England. To commemorate his mother’s 100th birthday, Mark and his brothers reached out to the United Kingdom Consulate in Boston to see if there was anything special that could be done. He was told about the commemorative greeting cards from the queen, and provided a copy of his mother’s birth certificate and passport to prove citizenship. While Mark said it was great to have the commemorative cards from all the officials, it was the queen’s card that truly had an impact on Paskoski. “It’s this big love affair. We don’t have that with our politicians. The royals, they can do no wrong,” said Mark.
