(Terrible mix of comedy & sci-fi)
Not good timing for a neighborhood watch movie. Actually, no time would be good for this terrible attempt at mixing comedy with sci-fi.
Ben Stiller plays Evan, a frustrated Costco manager in a quiet suburban Ohio town who forms a neighborhood watch after his night watchman is brutally murdered.
A subplot has Evan frustrated because he can't get his wife pregnant. He tries to form a neighborhood watch, but only three jerks show up.
Vince Vaughn plays Bob, father of a teenage daughter who gives him fits, setting up another stupid subplot. Vaughn's character is so obnoxious and irritating that I wanted to scream at him to shut up. But he doesn't. He just keeps talking incessantly. Jonah Hill is equally obnoxious as the sex-starved nerd who failed every test to become a cop. The fourth jerk is played by Richard Ayoade. And then there are the two irritating cops who followed the four idiots around.
There is not a single person to like in this terrible attempt at combining humor with sci-fi, as the four guys chase an alien around the neighborhood. The writers throw in an orgy scene to try to keep the audience from falling asleep. This one is a complete waste of time and money.
Rated R, with profanity, sex, nudity, drugs, violence, bathroom humor and everything else that could possibly draw a young male audience.
