The first casualty of war is truth

To the Editor:

Fear runs deep in the heart of America. When President Bush declared war on terrorism, our government and way of life would never be the same. Over 3,000 Americans were murdered in the downing of the World Trade towers, perhaps the most heinous crime of this millennial century, and out of the ashes rose an American phoenix set on avenging their deaths.

In short order, the patriot and homeland security acts were enacted into law, essentially eviscerating our constitutional rights. Warrantless searches, property seizures, indefinite detainment, unrestricted surveillance, denial of due process, all casualties under the guise of terrorism. Don’t forget truth is always the first casualty of war. Sounds something of a recipe for a police state, but allow me to digress.

The commission empowered to investigate these attacks presented a woefully flawed document so full of holes that only a blind man could miss. Information to precise times of attack was skewed. Reactions of essential personnel in the highest levels of government are unexplainable; testimony of eyewitnesses omitted, the vital sequence of events of NORAD, the federal agency charged to deal with hijacked aircraft, absent from the report, overall a blatant omission of culpable evidence.

Scientists searching through the rubble found large evidence of leftover residue from thermite, a mixture of finely divided metallic aluminum and ferric oxide that when ignited produces extremely high temperatures, enough to melt hardened steel, something no fire produced from any fuel could do. This thermite is used as an incendiary explosive and stored primarily in military ordinance, and is capable of reaching a temperature of 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit, hardly enough to disintegrate hardened steel. Scientists found rivers of molten steel in the rubble. No one, not even our government, can suspend the laws of physics.

It took five years and the freedom of information act to release first responders’ accounts that they heard numerous explosions in areas of the towers far removed from the planes’ impact. The explosives emitted an unusually blinding white light coincident with this type of incendiary device. The most glaring omission was no mention of building 7, known as the Solomon building – a 47-story-high building that came down some seven hours after the towers fell, which architects and engineers describe as a classical controlled implosion, leading one to suspect the building was intentionally destroyed.

To date, approximately 2,200 architects and engineers that viewed the captured videos of these fallen buildings have signed a petition for the government to reopen the investigation. Most are members of the prestigious American Institute for Architects, who have devoted their careers to how buildings are built and what it takes to bring them down. Their standards belie the commission’s report. Presently, our government has refused to reopen the investigation and review the damaging evidence fueling the possibility that this was an inside job with perhaps rogue elements of our government involved.

It’s been said Americans as a people are too trusting of their government and close their ears to the unpleasantries of life, but it would be well to remind them that only the truth, and a transparent government, will safeguard their freedoms.

Robert, you are a conspiracy nut. No one in our own government would have done this. What would be the reason? To spend a trillion dollars and bankrupt the country? Did the planes not crash into the towers Robert? Are you one of the nuts who thinks a missile hit the Pentagon? I was there. it was a plane.
