To the Editor:
Sometimes the truth hurts, but judging from last night’s council meeting and the almost vile animosity directed at former Councilman Robert Cushman, it was the outrageous lies that the City Council allowed him the time to spew forth that hurt.
Whether or not his untrained, homemade facts and figures had any accuracy in them whatsoever, I was impressed with his courage to stand before such a hostile pack regardless. I, for one, would have turned and run with my tail between my legs at the first heckle and wolf whistle.
No, what is needed now is for just one, yes, just one, [naturally honest and trustworthy] City Council member to have the same courage as Mr. Cushman and present “not made at the kitchen table” pie charts showing the real facts for the past 10 years and how those pie charts will look for the coming five or 10 years.
Getting the truth is all we ask for, so members of the Council, the floor is yours…
Capt. Ian Bowles, MNI
