The rink becomes the ring

As it has been in recent years, Thayer Arena was the site of the Rhode Island Kennel Club all-breed dog show. Held Saturday and Sunday, about 500 dogs competed in six rings based on breed and age. They were judged on obedience as well as their appearance with the best of show being a 15-inch beagle.

According to Vivian Marchetti, club president, the arena is an ideal size for the annual show. The club tried Twin River Casino one year but ended up coming back to Warwick.

“We had two good days and lots of good dogs,” said Marchelli.

Dog owners from across the country competed in the event with some traveling from as far as Michigan and Florida to be here. Founded in 1886, the Rhode Island Kennel Club is the one of the oldest kennel clubs in the country, second only to the Westminster Club. This was the club’s 118th all-breed show.
