Theatre by the Sea will hold local auditions on Saturday, Feb. 2 and Sunday, Feb. 3 at the University of Rhode Island’s Fine Arts Center at 105 Upper College Road, Kingston. This season, Bill Hanney, the owner of Theatre by the Sea, will serve as producer, and Arianna Knapp will take over as artistic director. Knapp is the artistic director at North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, Mass., another professional theater owned and operated by Hanney.
The 2013 summer season at Theatre by the Sea includes “Nunsense,” “Cats,” “Annie” and “La Cage Aux Folles.” “Nunsense” runs from May 29 to June 16; “Cats” from June 19 to July 14; “Annie” from July 17 to Aug. 11, and “La Cage Aux Folles” from Aug. 14 to Sept. 1.
The auditions will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, with an hour lunch break at 1. AEA actors can make appointments starting Jan. 15 by calling 782-3800 ext. 4. Non-union actors will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Performers are asked to prepare two brief songs: one up-tempo and one ballad, 16 bars each. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided but will not transpose. Please bring a picture and résumé, stapled back-to-back. Some may be asked to stay for a dance call, so bring appropriate dancewear and shoes (jazz, character and taps) and be properly warmed up. Callbacks will take place throughout the day.
No children will be seen at this time. Children auditioning for “Annie” will be seen at a later date; yet to be announced.
