According to the Department of Transportation, the Apponaug Mill water tower will come down this Saturday. Work is expected to be completed in one day, according to authorities. Mayor Scott Avedisian said he anticipates some people will say he should have saved the tower. He looked at moving it and got an estimate of $58,000. “I couldn’t justify spending that kind of money,” he said. This aerial photograph taken Friday shows the tower and its relationship to the more than $30 million Apponaug Circulator project that includes five roundabouts and extends Veterans Memorial Drive across the former mill site to the intersection of Centerville and Toll Gate Roads seen at the top of the photo.
