On Sunday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., health clubs are invited to join the American Cancer Society Spin for Hope, a three-hour indoor cycling event, taking place simultaneously at participating health clubs around New England.
Locally, the event will be held at Gold’s Gym, 200 Bald Hill Rd. and ProFitness, 1755 Bald Hill Rd. in Warwick. While it has long been an accepted fact that physical activity reduces one’s risk of heart disease, it’s still news that physical activity can also reduce the risk of cancer. One third of all cancer deaths are related to diet and activity factors. Spin for Hope is an exciting way to support the American Cancer Society in their mission to save lives and create a world with more birthdays, through fun and fitness.
Registration fee is $25. Participants can register as an individual and cycle for the entire three hours, or form a team of two or more people and take turns cycling. Individuals spinning for the full three hours are encouraged to raise a minimum of $300. Participants sharing a bike are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100 each. You can also support the event by donating to your favorite cyclist or team, volunteering your service on the day of or prior to the event, or by becoming an event sponsor.
In 2011, forty-eight health clubs around New England participated in Spin for Hope and raised more than $334,000 to support the American Cancer Society in their mission to save lives and create more birthdays by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer. Since its inception in 2005, in New England, Spin for Hope has raised more than $1.8 million for the American Cancer Society.
