Thomas H Gleason, 84, of Newport, formally of East Greenwich and Narragansett, passed away August 30th, 2012. Tom was the husband of the late Mary A (Crowley) Gleason.
Born in Providence, Tom was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Barrett) Gleason. Tom grew up in Providence attended Assumption School, LaSalle Academy and graduated from Providence College. Tom also served in the United States Navy. Tom owned and operated Gleason Tire Company for more than 30 years and then enjoyed 15 years at the Newport Preservation Society before his retirement. Tom is a former communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church and a former member of the Kent County YMCA and the Greenwich Club.
Tom leaves behind his ten children; Katie Gleason (Chris) of Tucson, Arizona, Nancy Gleason-Vaillancourt (Peter) of Portsmouth, Thomas H. Gleason, III (Adelaide) of New York and Middletown, Sheila Gleason (Jay), of New Jersey and Newport, James Gleason of Roxbury Conn., Jack Gleason (Caroline) of Miami Beach, FL, Joseph Gleason (Michelle) of East Greenwich, Robert Gleason (Sandra) of Bethlehem, Conn., Connie Viera (Gary) of North Kingstown, and Margaret Moses (Daniel) of Sydney, Australia. Tom also leaves 16 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. In addition Tom also leaves his two sisters, Dorothy Maynard and Barbara Sweet. He was the brother of the late Joseph F. Gleason and grandfather of the late Frederick Moses.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at St. Joseph Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport at 10 .am. Burial at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, R.I. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St. Newport.
