Toll Gate senior and University of Michigan-bound weight thrower Courtney Jacobsen broke the school and Providence Career and Technical Academy facility record with a toss of 56 feet, 7.5 inches at the division championships on Saturday.
As a team, the Titans (96 points) slotted in at second place in the Headley Division behind first-place Classical with 113 points. However, no individual shined brighter than Jacobsen. Her throw moved her into second nationally, holding off another nationally-ranked thrower, Classical’s Lysah Russell, by more than six feet to claim the division title.
Titans fall just short
Although Toll Gate failed to repeat as division champion, it still had a bevy of strong individual results besides Jacobsen.
The only other first-place finisher was junior Casey Gannon in the 55-meter hurdles, but the Titans had five runner-up performances.
Freshman Samantha Pistacchio earned second in the 600-meter run, as did Sarah Lavallee in the 1,000 and 1,500-meter runs, Sophia Maynard in the 3,000-meter run and the team of Heather Allstrom, Lavallee, Gannon and Pistacchio in the 4x400 relay.
Pats take third
The Pilgrim girls’ indoor track team placed third out of eight teams in the Headley Division with 72 points.
The Pats were led by Danika Wayss, who won the 1,000-meter run and took second in the 1,500-meter run.
Pilgrim’s quartet of seniors – Madison Stanley, Kayda Phillip, Emma Landroche and Nicole Morales also took second in the 4x200 relay, as did sophomore Ilana Perdereaux in the high jump.
