After winning the Manchester Invitational a week ago, Hendricken senior Colin Tierney had a second consecutive strong showing at a prestigious cross country race on Saturday.

Racing in the Great American Cross Country Festival’s Race of Champions at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., Tierney was the first Rhode Island finisher in 19th place overall, with a time of 15:31. His finish set the pace for a sixth-place overall finish for the Hawks, the best of any Rhode Island team.

After Tierney, Michael Potter was the next Hendricken runner across in 34th, with a time of 15:49. Overall, Potter was the third Rhode Island finisher behind Tierney and La Salle freshman D.J. Principe. Tom Grizzetti finished in 77th, Grant Gauthier took 92nd, Tom McMahon finished 110th and Dom Parlato finished 133rd.

La Salle was the only other Rhode Island team competing, and it finished in 12th place.

Hendricken won the junior varsity title, as Collin Manning led the way with a second-place finish.
