Bishop Hendricken’s Colin Tierney and Pilgrim’s Rebecca O’Donnell took two of Rhode Island’s 17 medals at the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Bridgewater, Mass.

Tierney capped his standout high school career with one of his best performances yet, finishing first in the 3,200 meters. He won in nine minutes, 22.19 seconds. Tierney had one of only four first-place finishes for Rhode Island at the meet. The others belonged to Hope’s Quashira McIntosh, who won the 100 and the 200. Hope’s 4x100 relay and La Salle’s 4x800 relay also won on the girls’ side.

O’Donnell, who finished second at the state championship, was Rhode Island’s top finisher in the long jump on Saturday. She grabbed sixth overall with a best of 17 feet, four inches. Cranston West’s Annabelle Hauck, the state champion, finished eighth at 17-02.75.

O’Donnell also competed in the triple jump, where she finished 21st. Teammate Melanie Brunelle took 23rd in the triple jump. Also competing for the Pats was Emma Landroche, who finished 22nd in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash.

Toll Gate’s Ani Armenakyan finished 16th in the shot put.

On the boys’ side, Tierney was joined by two individuals and three relay teams that competed for the Hawks. State champion Alex Cerbo finished 17th in the shot put and Shane Olson finished 22nd in the javelin. The 4x800 team of Grant Gauthier, Avery Ingegneri, Matt Constant and Jared Boulanger finished 13th; the 4x100 team of John Cute, Nick Stravato, Ronnie Gaynor and Lee Moses finished 14th; and the 4x400 team of Ian MacLeod, Power Kanga, Joe Swift and Justin Mazzulla took 18th.

Warwick Vets’ Austin Asoroona, a state place-winner, competed in the 100 and finished 16th overall. He was the third-best Rhode Island performer.
