To the Editor:
Governor Chafee’s son’s arrest saddens me. He is old enough to join the military, but not old enough to drink and when he supposedly told his friend to plead the 5th, he was told to shut up or else. This was a violation of his constitutional rights to freedom of speech, etc.
In the ’70s, the Rhode Island General Assembly reduced the drinking age in the state to 18 and later raised it to 21 again. Maybe we should revisit the age time frame; many Rhode Island teenagers have died in wars. Let him have a beer, as long as he doesn’t drink and drive.
