With temperatures plunging to the single digits in what meteorologists have dubbed a “polar vortex,” it’s been difficult to start cars nonetheless get up and go to school. Sherman School crossing guard Marilyn McMahon, who used her scarf for an extra layer of protection, said she only crossed two students Wednesday as most parents drove their kids to school. And once these kindergarteners arrived they remained fully bundled up until the entire class assembled and collectively went into their classroom. Temperatures are forecast to improve today with a low of 17 and a high of 30 by early afternoon. Rain is possible Saturday and Sunday. (Warwick Beacon photos)
