The Toll Gate girls’ volleyball team defeated Westerly on senior night last Wednesday evening in three sets to finish out its season with a 13-3 record.

The Titans came out strong to close out the campaign, winning 25-12 in their first set and 25-15 in their second set. The Bulldogs battled in the third set, but the Titans won a close 25-21 set to finish out the sweep.

The seniors honored were captains Ashley Chin and Taylor Payton, and fellow Titan Alyssa Mathews.

Toll Gate earned the No. 2 seed in Division II-South and received a bye into the quarterfinals. The Titans will face the winner of Tolman and West Warwick in a home game on Nov. 12, at 5 p.m. This season, Toll Gate is undefeated against the Wizards, beating them 3-1 on Sept. 15 and 3-0 on Oct 16. As for the Tigers, they have yet to face the Titans, as they play in Division II-North.

Looking ahead, if Toll Gate is set on getting to the state championship game, it very well might have to face undefeated Barrington in the semifinals. The Eagles have only lost one set all season.

Pats sweep Mariners

The Pilgrim girls’ volleyball team put an end to its six-game losing streak last Wednesday night, on senior night, defeating Narragansett 3-0.

The Pats rounded out the fall season with a 7-9 record, two of those wins coming against the Mariners.

The five seniors honored were Nancy Alvarez, Jontu Nguon, Emily Sayles, Emma Thibodeau and Meaghan Woodbury.

Pilgrim obtained the No. 5 seed in Division II-South. The Pats will face the North Smithfield Northmen in the preliminary round tonight at 6:30 p.m. at North Smithfield High School. This is the first time these two teams will be facing off against each other, as North Smithfield plays in Division II-North. The Northmen were 10-6 this season.

If the Pats beat North Smithfield, they will advance to the quarterfinals and take on East Greenwich. The Pats own a 1-1 record against the Avengers this season.
