For just the second time since 2009-10, the Toll Gate girls’ basketball team left the court ahead on the scoreboard in a league game this past Friday.

The Titans defeated Central Falls 44-26 to earn their first win of the season and their second in the last four years. Toll Gate went just 1-15 last year and was 0-18 each of the years before that, so Thursday’s victory was certainly an achievement.

Freshman standout Meghan McNulty was the team’s top performer with 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Titans pulled away in the second half after leading by just six points at the break.

Sarah Sagnella chipped in with 10 points, while Jackie Falso and Laura McGuire each added five. Laurel TenEyck had four, Holly Gerber-George had three, Taylor Jackson had two and Courtney Iadevaia had one.

Toll Gate improved to 1-5 in Division II-South, as Central Falls dropped to 1-4. This week, the Titans will have two games to try to keep the momentum going. They host 3-2 Mt. Hope at 7 p.m. today and then go up against Mount St. Charles in a non-league game Thursday at 7 p.m. at home.

Woonsocket knocks off Vets

The Warwick Vets hockey team beat Woonsocket early in the season for its only win thus far, but the Villa Novans got revenge on Friday night with a 4-2 win.

The game was tied 2-2 entering the third period, but Woonsocket put two shots past Vets’ goalie Colby Howard to earn the win. Howard saved 20 shots in net, while Woonsocket’s Nick Beals made 28 saves.

David Kowalik and Tyler DePetrillo had the goals for the ’Canes, while Kowalik and Kyle Veyera each had an assist.

Woonsocket is now 1-8, but has three points thanks to the win and an overtime loss earlier in the season. Vets is just behind with two points and a 1-7 record.

Vets will take on Ponaganset Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Levy Rink.
