Titans take six medals at Wilson Cup Tourney

Wrestling season is only a few days old, but Toll Gate is already making waves. After beating Division I East Providence in their season-opening dual meet last Wednesday, the Titans took home six medals and finished fourth overall at the Wilson Cup Tournament on Saturday at North Kingstown High School.

Aaron Travers won first place at 145, Joe Brosnahan took first at 160 and Ed Pierce won the 195-pound weight class. Also placing, Max Procopio took second at 138, Dave Navilliat finished third at 170 and John DiGiuseppe placed fourth at 152.

Bishop Hendricken and Pilgrim also wrestled at the tourney. The Hawks did not bring their full squad but had several wrestlers in attendance and placed in a tie for sixth in the team standings. Nick Berling won first at 106, Anthony Lanni took fourth at 120, Evan Grenier placed fourth at 126 and Nick Martino took second at 195.

Pilgrim finished 12th overall, with one place-winner. Senior Mike Turchetta took third at 220, with a pin in the medal-round match.
