The Titans placed third in the team race, behind Narragansett and Bellows Falls, Vt., and had nine place-winners.

Max Procopio was the top performer with a first-place finish at 138. Aaron Travers was a finalist at 145 but lost to Bellows Falls’ Nolan Viens, while Ed Pierce fell in the finals at 195 to Connor Williams of Nauset, Mass.

Also for the Titans, Joe Mercurio placed third at 182, while five wrestlers placed fifth in their weight class – Andrew Zelano, Zach Caldarone, John DiGiuseppe, Joe Brosnahan and Tim Warner.

The Titans host Ponaganset and Central Falls on Wednesday before welcoming Pilgrim and Vets on Thursday at 4 p.m. for the Warwick City Championship.

First victories

The Toll Gate boys’ basketball team and the Pilgrim girls each picked up their first league victories of the season over the weekend.

The Titans beat St. Patrick 47-23 behind 12 points by Austin Giard. Amari Maduro added nine and Uzair Ayaz chipped in eight. Toll Gate is now 1-4 but just a game behind Pilgrim and Warwick Vets for second place in Division III-Central.

The Pilgrim girls got into the win column thanks to a 43-37 decision over Mt. Pleasant on Friday night. Megan St. Jacques tallied 15 points to lead the Pats and Haley Donahay added seven. The Pats improved to 1-3.

On Track

Two Bishop Hendricken track standouts had strong showings at the Yale Invitational this past weekend. Senior Colin Tierney placed second in the 3,000 in a school-record time of 8:35.36, while senior thrower Alex Cerbo finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 50-6.50.

The Hawks also had their 4x800 team in attendance. Avery Ingegneri, Tom Grizzetti, Jared Boulanger and Grant Gauthier finished ninth.
