For students planning to attend college during the 2012-2013 academic year, now is the time to apply for a Rhode Island State Grant to help pay for college expenses. To apply, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA must be received at the application processing center by March 1.
The Rhode Island Higher Education Assistance Authority (RIHEAA) awards state grants to financially needy Rhode Island residents to assist with the expense of attending college. For the 2011-2012 academic year, more than 20,000 students received awards totaling $12.3 million. Awards for 2011-2012 ranged from $250 to $700, depending upon a student’s financial need and the availability of funds.
Students are encouraged to complete a FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Due to limited funding levels, RIHEAA must adhere strictly to the March 1 deadline.
