Toll Gate halts losing streak with win over EG

The Toll Gate baseball team has been stuck in a tough stretch recently, but the Titans picked up a big win on Friday to get themselves moving in the right direction.

Toll Gate knocked off East Greenwich 4-3 in nine innings, dropping the Avengers to 6-4 in Division I-South. The Titans improved their record to 2-8 in the same division, as they ended a five-game losing streak and picked up their first victory sincE April 14.

The score was tied at two into the ninth inning, when Kyle McGuire scored on a balk and Elvis Pimentel brought home an insurance run with a sacrifice fly.

Pimentel then took the mound in the seventh to earn the win.

Toll Gate tied the game at two with a run in the top of the seventh, sending it to extras. Steve Foster got the start on the mound, while McGuire pitched the seventh and eighth innings.

Pats’ streak snapped

The Pilgrim baseball team has been playing its best baseball of the season recently, but a four-game win streak was halted on Saturday in a 4-1 loss to Portsmouth.

The Pats are now 6-6 in D-I-South, right in the middle of the playoff hunt.

Included in their recent winning streak was a 1-0 victory over Barrington on Friday. Elijah Dressel threw a complete-game shutout, while Brandon Paiva scored the game’s only run in the sixth on a hit by Ryan Morris.

Even with the four runs given up to Portsmouth, the Pats have been dominant on the mound as of late, giving up just 10 runs total in their last five games.

Hawks still flying

The Bishop Hendricken baseball team just keeps winning.

After an undefeated regular season last year, the Hawks are 9-0 this season, adding an 11-4 win over Lincoln on Monday and a 12-2 win over Cumberland on Friday to their resume.

The win over the Clippers was a big one, as they are 7-4. But they were no match for the Hawks. The game ended after just six innings thanks to a five-run bottom of the sixth for Hendricken.

Gian Martellini continued his tear at the plate, hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the first. The Hawks finished with 16 hits, and Mike McCaffrey earned the win while going the distance on the mound.
