Toll Gate takes care of shorthanded Pats

Playing against cross-town rival Pilgrim, the Toll Gate boys’ tennis team continued its strong start to the season with a 6-1 victory on Thursday.

The Titans improved to 4-2 in Division II-Suburban A, while Pilgrim remained winless at 0-7 in D-II-Suburban B. The Pats’ only win came at No. 1 singles, where Thomas Greenberg defeated Justin Allen 7-5, 6-1.

After that, it was all Toll Gate. Brandyn Garrahy beat Joseph Chehy 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Dan Smith beat Jack Howland 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Hunter Heberg defeated Jacob Smith 6-0, 6-0 at four singles.

In doubles, Nick Mattioli and Jeremy Cullen beat Peter Lemoi and Hunter Bazarnick 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles, and the next two doubles matches were forfeited, in favor of Toll Gate. The Titans’ teams of Duncan Hart and Nick Czabanowski and John Yavas and Kyle Gray were awarded victories.

Toll Gate’s next match was scheduled for Monday against 5-1 Classical, with the results unavailable at press time. After that, the Titans will be at 6-1 Chariho today at 4 p.m.

Pilgrim hosts winless Scituate today at 3:30 p.m.
