Toll Gate captured the team title and Pilgrim took home two first-place medals while finishing fifth overall at the annual Smithfield Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.

The Titans won eight medals and racked up 146.5 points on their way to the team crown. Chariho – a Division I team – was second with 130 points. Moses Brown, Hope and Pilgrim rounded out the top five.

Toll Gate did not have a first-place finisher but were led by four runners-up. Aaron Travers took second at 145, Dave Navilliat grabbed second at 182, Ed Pierce finished second at 195 and Tim Warner took second at 285. Jorden Daponte took third at 106, Zach Caldarone finished third at 126, John DiGiuseppe finished third at 152 and Joe Brosnahan finished fourth at 160.

Pilgrim left with two championships – and both came against their rivals from Toll Gate. Griffin Potter won at 182, besting Navilliat with a second-period pin in the finals. Mike Turchetta took first at 195, edging Pierce 4-3 in the title match.

Also for Pilgrim, Oluiwaseun Akinnusotu took second at 170 and Mike Pereira finished third at 220.
