We were amazed when my recent review of Cranston’s 39 West drew over 285 hits on Rhodybeat.com, so we returned for another visit to see how they were doing.
“People are discovering us,” chef Anthony Iannielo told us. “We’re not the West End Café. We’re 39 West. And we’re more than a bar. We’re a restaurant with a bar. Many of my former customers from Nicole’s Tuscanny Grille have found me. They come by for our $10. Early Bird Specials and stay for a good time at our Trivia Nights and weekend entertainment.”
39 West is packing them in with favorite Rhode Island bands like Steve Anthony. Real Deal plays this Friday, Sept. 20, with Front and Center playing on Saturday, Sept. 21. The music starts at 9:30 p.m.
Reviewing nearly a restaurant a week, it is difficult to return and see how they are doing. We’ve added 39 West to our list of “Where to eat when you don’t have a review that week.” (Lemongrass and Twin Oaks lead the short list.)
Anthony wanted his trivia lovers to know that they have added the $10 Early Bird menu to the special menu for Thursday’s Trivia Night.
I tried his shrimp scampi, and it had to be the bargain of the century.
Owners Vinnie and Lisa DiNofrio’s daughter, Britney, is the restaurant’s floor manager and bartender and always has a welcome smile for old and new customers who are enjoying the friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Combining the power of the press, word of mouth and the Internet with great food, drink and entertainment have all helped 39 West to expand its customer base in Cranston.
As chef Anthony says, “We’re much more than a bar.”
