To the Editor:
What an unhappy experience for me when I visited the Warwick Library and found that the room that had been dedicated to my father, former Mayor Horace Hobbs, no longer bears his name.
This special room honored my dad for his work in establishing a central library for the people of Warwick. It was a proud day for the Hobbs family when our father was remembered in this manner.
I maintain a home here in Warwick and would have appreciated the courtesy of the library board members informing me of their intention to remove dad’s name from this room when it became a teen center. I do not think that these board members knew that prior to becoming mayor of the city of Warwick, my father spent 30 years working with young people in the field of education. What an appropriate place for his name.
Returning my dad’s name to this room would be in order.

Editor’s Note: Director of Warwick libraries Diane Greenwald said she has talked with Mrs. McDavid and is aware of her concerns. Greenwald said that the library board would review options for placing Mayor Hobbs’ name whether on the room initially dedicated in his memory or another.
