Theatre Works announced open auditions for the second show of its 31st season – Frank O’Donnell’s “A Christmas Carmella.”

The show, which will open Dec. 6, is a spin-off of the two “Ant’ny Claus” shows written by O’Donnell and presented by Theatre Works in 2011 and 2012. In this one, Carmella – Ant’ny Claus’ mother-in-law – is asked to tell her grandkids the classic Dickens “Christmas Carol” but, because she gave the book away, she’s forced to tell it from memory.

“This isn’t your Grandma’s ‘Christmas Carol’ – but you’ll wish it were,” according to the Theatre Works press release.

Most roles are open and auditioners will be asked to do cold readings from the script. O’Donnell, who co-directed the first two shows, will direct this new show.

He needs four male and female teenagers; eight 20- to 30-year-old males or females; and 10 male or female 30- to 60-year-old actors. Depending on turnout, some actors could be cast in multiple roles.

Auditions will be held on Sunday, Oct 6 at 6:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at Theatre Works. No appointment is necessary.

Run dates are Dec. 6 to 8; and Dec. 13 to 15.

Theatre Works is in the Masonic Temple at 142 Clinton Street in Woonsocket. Further information can be found at www.twri.org. For audition questions, contact Frank O’Donnell at frankcomedy@cox.net or 447-7589.
