For over three and a half years, the folks at Live Bait have been doing things in a particular way, at a particular time and at a particular place. It has been successful and there has been absolutely no reason to change things. On the other hand, a foolish consistency, they say, is the hobgoblin of little minds.
So, what to do? Well, Live Bait decided to have it both ways, with two Live Bait shows in March. The first, on the first Friday, will be the regularly scheduled show at 10 p.m. at 95 Empire (formerly Perishable Theatre) with the same price of $7 at the door. As always, people will place their names in the fishbowl and, when their names are called, will come up and tell their stories based on the theme. That theme will be “Didn’t See it Coming.”
The second show will be on the second Friday at 8 p.m. (for the early birds) in the performance space at AS220. Tickets will be $6 at the door. And, if that weren’t enough, here’s where things are really going to be different. In this show, themes will be picked out of the fishbowl, not names. We’re calling it “Ready or Not.” If there’s a particular theme picked that tickles anybody’s fancy and/or reminds them of a story, they can yell, “I got it!” then come up on the stage and tell it.
Both shows will have the same simple two rules: six minutes, no notes. Both shows, everyone is most welcome, even if they don’t have a story, to just sit back and listen. And both shows will be hosted, in the exact same way, with meandering banter by Phil Goldman and musical accompaniment by Jerry Gregoire.
