Two of Warwick’s most popular historic attractions, Aldrich Mansion and Clouds Hill Victorian House Museum, will host special events tied to Valentine’s Day, allowing guests the chance to celebrate the holiday surrounded by Victorian history.

On Valentine’s Day, Aldrich Mansion will hold an exclusive, private dining experience inside the historic mansion. The number of guests is limited to 40 couples, allowing for an intimate and romantic experience to celebrate the day.

Completed in the early 1900s, Aldrich Mansion is the location where Abby Aldrich, one of Senator Nelson W. Aldrich’s children, married John D. Rockefeller Jr.

Attendees at the Valentine’s Day Dinner will enjoy a four-course prix-fixed menu prepared by the Aldrich Mansion’s chef while enjoying the opportunity to dine in the ornate and historic setting. Cost is $145 (including gratuity and taxes) per couple, comparable to the cost of most Valentine’s Day events.

After receiving a complimentary glass of champagne upon arrival, guests will have the option of lobster bisque topped with lobster chunks and chives or Italian wedding soup for their first course, followed by a salad with blueberries, strawberries, grape tomatoes, almonds and a lemon poppy seed dressing.

For the main course, guests have an option of grilled salmon with spinach and crab stuffing, asparagus spears and rice pilaf, or roast tenderloin of beef with a balsamic glaze, prosciutto-wrapped asparagus spears and mashed potato.

For dessert, there is a choice of strawberry shortcake or chocolate mousse cake.

Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. After dinner, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. guests are invited to tour the mansion’s main floor and mingle with other couples. In addition to the meal, guests will enjoy live music, a cash bar and free, onsite parking.

Clouds Hill Victorian House Museum will host 100 Years of Romance, an exhibit of wedding dresses ranging from the 1880s to the 1990s. Guests will be able to learn historical facts about weddings, while touring the historical home featuring beautiful architecture, interior design and furnishings.

Clouds Hill, located at 4157 Post Road, was built in late 1800s as a wedding gift to Elizabeth Ives Slater when she married Alfred Augustus Reed Jr. The home then passed down through the women in Slater’s family until its current owner, Anne. The home has been maintained since it was built and features many family heirlooms dating back to the 1870s. It is now a 501(c)3 charitable organization, often referred to as one of the state’s hidden treasures.

The exhibit runs from Feb. 12 to Feb. 24; tours can be arranged by calling 884-9490, or attending the open hours on Sunday Feb. 16 and Sunday Feb. 23 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $12 per person, or $20 for a pair.
