(Sentimental senior saga)

Senior actors Terence Stamp and Vanessa Redgrave star in this sentimental tale of a woman dying of cancer and her bitter, introverted husband who just can’t deal with it.

Arthur’s wife sings in a local senior citizen choir, led by a perky young lady (Gemma Arterton) who sees beneath Arthur’s cold exterior and helps him find himself after his wife’s death. Arthur also has issues with his son that need to be resolved.

While I found the plot a bit manipulative at times, Joyce bought into it and loved the story and the messages. There’s a big feel-good moment at the end that left a few Avon audience members reaching for their handkerchiefs.

Rated PG-13, with some funny sexual references, especially funny when delivered by senior citizens.
