VOWS assists with school volunteer background checks

Posted

In an effort to help potential volunteers in the Warwick Public Schools comply with the recently enacted Rhode Island law requiring state criminal background checks for school volunteers, the Volunteers of Warwick Schools (VOWS), in cooperation with John Brown Francis School PTA and Scott School PTA, will hold two events to provide an opportunity for interested Warwick residents to authorize our facilitation of their background checks.

School volunteers can choose to participate in a state criminal background check performed either by the Warwick Police Department, which is free of charge to Warwick residents, or by the BCI Unit of the State of Rhode Island Department of Attorney General, which carries a fee of $5 paid by the volunteer.

The John Brown Francis PTA event will be held at John Brown Francis Elementary School, 325 Miantonomo Drive, Warwick, on Wednesday, June 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Scott School PTA event will be held at Harold F. Scott Elementary School, 833 Centerville Road, Warwick, on Monday, June 17 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering at any Warwick public school is encouraged to attend. For further information, contact VOWS at 734-3230.
