As the school has done for the past three years, Valentine’s Day was an occasion for Oakland Beach students and faculty to give their hearts and the Heart Association a little extra attention. They took part in jumping rope and hoops for heart under the direction of physical education instructor James DeSimone who is seen swinging a skip rope. The kids, like Kaitlyn Degnan pictured here, also got to do hula-hoops. Ariana Costa found time to rest on a ball while holding a ball. Both are first graders and skipping rope is first grade teacher Janice Adamec. Last year the school placed fifth in the state raising more than $3,000 for the Heart Association. There were no fundraising requirements to participate in the Valentine’s Day activities, but as DeSimone observed, “this is a very generous community.”
