Madeline, left, and Sophia Hopkins of Warwick competed in the Cinderella Scholarship Pageant at Rhode Island College on June 2. This all-natural (no make-up allowed) pageant and talent show celebrates young girls’ leadership and community involvement. Scoring is based mainly on talent and interview. Of particular interest are the New England Queens' annual fundraising events to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Much to their mom's surprise, each daughter rose to the top to pull an Over-All win in her age division. The girls were awarded a small cash gift, flowers, a trophy, a crown and travel bags. They have been invited to compete at the International level in Las Vegas, N.V. in July. If they are going to manage the trip, they will have to extensively raise funds for travel expenses but are hopeful to make it work. A fundraiser is to be announced. The winners at the international level are awarded a substantial scholarship to college, so there is much on the line for these two young ladies. Reigning as Miss and Mini-Miss Cinderella 2012 will be a big responsibility. The two girls have a family member who was granted a Wish this past year, and the charity is very near to their heart, and they are excited to be given an opportunity to give back to the community.
