Veronica Smith becomes Snow White in ‘100 years of Disney Magic’

Posted

Veronica Smith started skating when she was only three years old in her home town of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

“My brothers all played hockey,” she told me, “so my mother got me into figure skating.”

Veronica traveled to California after graduating from high school to try out for Disney, and before you can say “Prince Charming” she was playing Snow White and a few other familiar Disney characters. She said that being on the road at such a young age has taught her “how to be independent and also how to be responsible with my money.”

“I miss my family and my dog, but I have a big family in the show and I have this wonderful opportunity to travel all over the world. I can go back to school later.”

How many 21-year-olds have traveled to America, Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, France, England, Qatar and South Africa?

She actually spent the Christmas holiday on the road last year and spent time touring western Europe, having some time off in August to travel home to Canada.

“This is such a wonderful show because it celebrates 100 years of Disney and all of the wonderful characters. The adults love it as much as the children,” she said. “I love to watch the faces of the children as I skate around the ice.”

Veronica travels light on the road (“have to save room for souvenirs”) She also tries to eat well and exercise (“I love to walk around the cities, and I understand that Providence is very walkable.”).

“I enjoy playing Snow White and other different characters,” she said. “I want to draw the audience into my performance.”

Veronica and the rest of the company will be at the Dunkin Donuts Center Thursday through Saturday, September 17-19. Tickets are for sale online or at the Dunkin Donuts box office.
