Vets Council puts out call for Memorial Day Parade participants

Posted

The Warwick Veterans Council is in the process of putting together the city’s annual Memorial Day Parade on May 26, looking for groups and organizations to march in the annual event.

Any group that would like to march is being asked to contact the council. The council is especially looking for veterans to participate in the parade and ceremony afterwards.

Parade participants are asked to arrive at the back parking lot of Bishop Hendricken High School by 8:45 a.m. Participants need to be organized and lined up by the 9:15 a.m. start time.

Groups are asked to contact Tony Rodrigues of the Veterans Council about participating in the parade. Rodrigues can be reached at 919-8951 or 737-1909.

The mile-long parade route begins at the back lot of Hendricken, goes along a small portion of Oakland Beach Avenue, and then makes a right onto West Shore Road to reach its final destination of the Warwick Veterans Memorial Park in front of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. A short ceremony will be held at the park.

Rodrigues and the council are also encouraging the general public to turn out and watch along the parade route.

“It is to remember the ones who gave their lives for the country, those who have served in previous conflicts and those fighting all over the world today,” said Rodrigues.
